Usher
Starting at the beginning the research has taken me back, confirmed, to a William Usher born in 1759 or 1760 but location unknown who was Agent to Lord Dundas at the Alum Works in Loftus (or Lofthouse). William was obviously educated as there are records of letters and correspondence written and signed by William in his capacity as Agent.
William died 12 February 1816 of "Gout of the Stomach" which is not a modern condition but could indicate angina, gall stones or stomach ulcers.
Williams family on his death appear to have moved from Loftus to Whitby. He was married (1795) to Elizabeth Scott and they had 3 children Mary (b: 1796), Tamar (b:1797) and George (b:1800).
Tamar had twins Henry and William Shimmens but Tamar and Heny died shortly after the birth. William Shimmens Usher survived and lived for 80-years.
The birth of Tamar's twins was in 1821, and William son of George and Elizabeth Ross was born in 1826 in Loftus so it is sound assumption it was after that these dates they moved to Whitby. Mary married Thomas Goodhill in Whitby in 1829.
There is a suggestion that William Usher (b:1859) came from North Cave based on LDS research but this does not logically align with someone as a well educated individual as Agent to Lord Dundas.
More recent discussions have led research to believe William was born in Tanfield, Consett the son of John Usher.
William was also Captain William Usher of the Militia.
The main research has focused on George and Elizabeth with their son William being a direct ancestor. Some research has been done on other family members such as their marriages and children. The son William was one of the mysteries in terms of his children and also his second marriage and then death 1m 1888.
